Eighty years ago today, Japan formally surrendered.

At noon on August 15, 1945, the Emperor of Japan broadcast to all of Japan, accepting… Potsdam Proclamation , it implemented unconditional surrender, bringing the war to an end. In September of the same year, Japan held the surrender ceremony on the main deck of the USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay, and subsequently submitted its instrument of surrender in Nanjing.

Japan’s surrender marked a crucial milestone in the complete victory of the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression.

During the War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression, more than 35 million compatriots were killed or wounded, and our land was torn apart while countless lives were lost; every painful memory serves as a solemn warning for peace.

Remembering history is not about perpetuating hatred, but rather about drawing lessons from the past and making peace a shared conviction of the entire nation. The victory of the War of Resistance stemmed from the united awakening of the whole people—whether on the front lines or behind enemy lines, whether in factory production or student propaganda—where unity coalesced into an immense force capable of overcoming a formidable foe.
